Buying and Running a Hotel or Bed & Breakfast

Advice of a Cautionary Type

Running a lovely Bed and Breakfast or small hotel is everyone's favourite idea for combining a little income with a semi-retired life in Ireland.

I've put up web sites and do marketing for a couple dozen b&b's, self-catering cottages and hotels. I also designed and manage the Irish Hotels Federation's member's site. I deal with folks in the industry every day.

Following on from the massive overbuilding of hotels during the boom, Ireland now has an overhang of at least 10,000 rooms per day too many. Numerous hotels, guesthouses and bed and breakfasts are going to the wall. Many are propped up only by banks anxious to keep their loan books looking better than they really are. Zombie hotels supported by zombie banks.

If all this doesn't put you off, then you need to read the page on the full site.

There is much more information in the Full Site.
