About the Author
O boy! My favorite page.
The author of this site is me,
Scott Simons. My first visit to Ireland was in 1975. A friend
offered a job doing construction work in a small development outside
Dublin. The place was surrounded by green fields and countryside.
Today those meadows are gone and the area is called Tallaght -
home to more than 100,000 people!
I was working for 15 Irish pounds a
week and living in a Dublin flat with three other guys. Upstairs
lived four college girls. Before long, I was spending part of
my weekly wage on flowers and Chinese dinners for two. A few years
and intercontinental visits later and my favorite Irish person
joined me in the Calfornia desert where our two daughters were
born.
In 1992, we moved back to Ireland.
This was the biggest gamble of our lives since we "I do"-ed.
The dice rolled seven and we've been happy. In hopes that your
move will have similar happy results, and let's face it, in the
hope of a few bob, this site is offered to the world.
Qualifications? I've written books
for Disney Educational Products, Simon and Schuster, and TOR Publishing.
RTE 1, the national radio station, has picked up a number of my
pieces. I've been a teacher, computer instructor, Web Page designer,
and not so great programmer. I've moved to Ireland and learned,
often the expensive way, the information contained here.
Go n-éirí an bóthar
leat. May the road rise with you.
Questions or Comments are appreciated.
How can I better the site? What was useless? What was useful?
